A visit at work

Happy Fathers day James!

James is one of the best dads I have ever had the pleasure of watching raise their children for as many years as I have known them. He gives his all to his kids, everyday. Of course, teens don’t realize how much we do until they have to do the whole “adulting” thing on their own. James loves his kids with all he is, and as I have said before, hes an amazing, loving, caring soul.

While I wish I could say that this Fathers day started for James with breakfast in bed surrounded with all our loving children, I can not. James got the added bonus of joining me at work… as a patient. With the previous ER visit didnt give us all the answers we needed to rest easy the next 12 days to surgery, we decided to get a CT done at my facility where I knew he would be treated appropriately.

James checked in and within 10 min had vitals, ekg , iv done, labs drawn and was waiting for CT. This is how we work in the ER, given this diagnosis. James goes to CT and its resulted there is a possible small gain in size of the Aneurysm, which tells us this is an expected symptom now. The CT scan also told us there was no dissection happening, but did disclose there were two spots in his right lung that were unchanged from the last xray which showed the pneumonia, suspicious as all others were resolved. from treatment.

Oh great, James and I look at each other with the same thought…. “Are you fucking kidding me?” Just jump into our nightmare life, the water is warm!

So what does this mean now? Nothing. we must follow up in 6 months. Sigh. I see the frustration in James eyes. “Babe, its all going to be ok, no matter what this life throws at us, I’m here.. I’m not going anywhere. I love you James, every day..every way.” The day continues and ends with a wonderful dinner surrounded by most of our kids, lots of hugs and kisses and much thanks to James, for being the great man and father he is.
