Pre Op, day before the big fix!

Today was pre-op day! Mercy has a pretty good process in place so that it’s almost a rehearsal. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about James case, very reassuring for us both. All James labs, vitals and X-rays look great. We are ready for this battle.

Little did we know the Rn would be in charge of James “grooming” today. She proceeds to shave him down, starting on his wrists working upward, then his chest. I take a long look at this handsome chest… and then realize the Rn is now shaving James LEGS! Ha! Yes he’s as clean as a dolphin now and she saved the groom for last! James and I are both trying very hard not to just start cracking up! James cracks some jokes, as he does. We all laugh and now it’s on with the rest of our day.

We leave the hospital with a new sense of reassurance, confidence and appetites you could hear! Time for one last motorcycle ride before the long recovery period, off to Napa we go, good food in mind and lots of it!

We finished the eve surrounded by great friends and lots of love and head off to bed exhausted for what’s likely to be another restless night. The 345am wake up call will come fast! My head on his chest for the last time for a while. I kiss him and remind him he is loved and I am here, everyday, every way. And off to sleep we go.
